Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Catholic Artist Directory.

Who This Directory Is For

Catholic Artist Directory is built exclusively for Catholic artists, craftsmen, and musicians whose work is oriented toward serving the Church. If a parish, diocese, or ministry could hire you - for a commission, a church event, a retreat, worship leading, sacred art, or liturgical work - you are who we built this for.

No. Being Catholic is necessary, but it's not the only requirement. Your work must be oriented toward serving the Church's liturgical and ministerial life. If your music, visual art, or craftsmanship is primarily secular - even if you're a faithful Catholic - this platform is not a good fit for you. We built this specifically to connect parishes and ministries with artists they can hire for church events, commissions, and sacred work.

You're church-employable if a parish, diocese, or Catholic ministry could realistically hire or commission you. Examples include: a worship leader for a youth retreat, a painter for a chapel mural, a woodcarver for a sanctuary renovation, a vestment maker for a new parish, or a sacred musician for weekly Mass. If your primary body of work falls outside the Church's needs, this directory is probably not your best fit.

We maintain a high standard. Our verification team evaluates every application not just for Catholic faithfulness but for cultivated mastery of craft. Applying does not guarantee approval - we're looking for artists whose work reflects developed skill, professionalism, and readiness to serve the Church at a high level. This protects the integrity of the directory so that parishes and ministries can commission with confidence.

The $29 fee covers the cost of manual verification - reviewing portfolios, faith statements, and artist materials takes real time from our review team. Because every application receives careful evaluation regardless of the outcome, the fee is non-refundable. It also serves as a quality filter, ensuring that only serious applicants who are genuinely committed to serving the Church through this platform apply. Refunding denied applications would incentivize unfiltered submissions and undermine the integrity of the directory.

Verification Checkmarks

The blue checkmark indicates a Verified Artist - an artist who has been reviewed and approved by our verification team. This process protects the integrity of the directory and gives institutions confidence they are commissioning artists who share their faith. These artists are usually independent, though the designation is always determined by our verification team.

The gold checkmark indicates a Featured Artist. These are prominent Catholic worship leaders, musicians, craftsmen, and sacred artists who have been recognized for their known Catholic identity, public reputation, and artistic excellence. They are added by our verification team and do not pay for placement. Featured Artist designations are made through discernment, not solicitation - there is no way to request or apply for Featured Artist status. See our Featured Artist Disclaimer for full details.

Our verification team reviews each applicant's portfolio, faith statement, and Catholic identity. The process evaluates artistic excellence, Catholic faithfulness, and alignment with the mission of the Church - protecting the integrity of the directory so institutions can commission with confidence. Featured Artists are added directly by the team; independent artists apply and are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Yes. Independent artists can apply by creating a profile and submitting it for review. The application process includes providing your portfolio, a faith statement, and supporting materials. Our verification team will review your submission to ensure you meet our standards of artistic excellence and Catholic faithfulness, then notify you of the outcome.

Featured Artists

Featured Artists are distinguished Catholic worship leaders, musicians, craftsmen, and sacred artists who are well-known in their field. They are listed so that parishes, dioceses, and ministries can find their management company or label and engage them through those professional channels. Their presence serves the Church by making it easy to find and hire the finest Catholic artists working today.

Featured Artists are added by our verification team based on their public Catholic identity and artistic reputation. Their profiles include publicly available information and are managed through their label or management company contacts. If you are a Featured Artist and have questions about your listing, please contact us at hello@catholicartistdirectory.com.

Each Featured Artist’s profile includes their management company or label contact information. You can reach out through the booking email or website provided on their profile. We do not facilitate direct booking of Featured Artists outside of their management channels, as most are contractually represented.

No. We do not accept requests for Featured Artist badges or profiles - no exceptions. Only our verification team determines Featured Artist designations through prayerful discernment. Reaching out to request Featured Artist status actually risks your account being restricted or removed. We do not consider labels, management companies, or any third parties reaching out on behalf of an artist. See our Featured Artist Disclaimer for more details.

No. Being on the Catholic Artist Directory is a privilege, not a right. Submitting an application or being listed on the platform does not guarantee continued or permanent membership. Profiles can be removed at any time for misuse or if we discern the platform is not a good fit. We reserve these decisions to protect the integrity of the directory and the Church community it serves.

Pricing

Our pricing is designed to keep the platform sustainable while remaining accessible to the Church. Artists pay a one-time $29 registration fee per profile. Each artist profile requires its own registration fee. Institutions subscribe for $10/month or $100/year with full directory access. We keep costs low by not hosting images or media files directly - artists provide URLs to their existing hosting.

We believe that the Church deserves artists who are not only talented but also faithful to Catholic teaching and practice. A manual verification process allows us to ensure that every artist in the directory meets both standards. This protects the integrity of the directory and gives institutions confidence that they are commissioning artists who share their faith.

Image Hosting

We do not host images or media files directly on the platform. This keeps the software lean, minimizes server costs, and allows us to focus our resources on connecting artists with the Church. By accepting URLs instead of file uploads, we also keep budgets clean and ensure that everyone involved can “go home at the end of the day getting paid to do what God made them to do.”

Google Drive (recommended):

 1. Upload your image to Google Drive
 2. Set the sharing permissions to “Anyone with the link”
 3. Copy the link and use this format: https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=YOUR_FILE_ID

Other free options: Imgur, PostImage, imgbb - all provide direct image URLs.

Yes! If you already have images hosted on your own website or a social media platform, you can simply copy the image URL and paste it into your profile. This is the easiest way to add images if you already have them online.

Blessed Items & Facilitation Costs

When an item has been blessed, it cannot be sold (per canon law). Instead, the listing uses facilitation costs - fees that cover the expenses of transferring the item to a new home. These may include shipping, handling, packaging, appraisal, certification, restoration, artist service fees, and installation. The item itself is not priced; only the facilitation services are.

Blessed items are set apart for sacred use and, according to canon law, cannot be bought or sold. However, they can be transferred to another worthy home, and the costs of facilitating that transfer can be covered. This is why blessed items on our marketplace show facilitation costs instead of a sale price.

When you express interest in a blessed item, the seller will work with you to arrange the transfer. Facilitation costs are itemized so you can see exactly what each fee covers. For more details, visit our Facilitation Cost Explainer.
